A Story of Recovery: Sandy's Experience at Mentor Ridge

We are truly touched by your kind words and thrilled to hear that our staff and residents were able to make a positive difference during your recovery from knee replacement surgery. It's our priority to ensure that every resident feels valued and respected, and we are grateful for your acknowledgment of our efforts to maintain your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

"I just recently completed a three-week stay at Mentor Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Although I was understandably in much pain physically after my total knee replacement surgery, Mentor Ridge staff and residents decreased my suffering in so many ways.

The front desk women were the first to welcome me, and my family, with my initial tour and information session, there they continued with their warm helpfulness all throughout my stay. The nurses and aides were tasked with tending to most of my health, and daily routine needs, which they did with professional accuracy, and thoroughness making sure not to just physically help me, but also were quite helpful in answering all of my questions. Explaining why my body was now feeling or performing differently after surgery in ways I could understand. It’s hard being an older adult, used to taking care of yourself and others, now in the role of being dependent on nurses and aides to care for many of my basic needs, but each one of them did so without making me feel helpless, embarrassed, or like I was a burden. In fact, they always seemed to genuinely care for my physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

It was nice to have dietary, housekeeping, and other unexpected helpful support (shoutout to Ben!) as many tasks just can’t be completed on my own yet, or at least not at the beginning of my stay. I am much more functional now at the end of my stay.

I learned so much from my physical and occupational therapist! Everything from positional alignments of my body parts, both old and new to right and wrong and safe movements. Showing me the right proportions between rigorous exercises, less aggressive smooth movements, mixed with rest, and periodic icing has already helped me. This will continue to help me to obtain the best results and progress with regard to movements, flexibility, and self-control over my body, giving me more confidence that I can successfully continue my rehabbing at home with their informative instruction voices running over and over in my head.

So many people welcomed me into the Mentor Ridge family! They encouraged and motivated me to get out of bed to take part in activities and socializing. Every day, I was excited to meet up with my new friends and break up the hard work of therapy and healing with some much-needed play, humor, and fun.

Thank you to everyone who made my stay less painful, and indeed enjoyable on several levels. I will be having a total knee replacement done on my other knee in the near future, and it is my hopefully desire to come back to Mentor Ridge as I know they will take care of me so well again."
