Racing Down Memory Lane: Fulfilling Gene's Wish at Mentor Ridge
October 15, 2024
Gene Kaufman, a beloved resident of Mentor Ridge for over five years and current Resident Council President, recently had a long-held dream fulfilled through our Golden Grant Program. Decades ago, Gene was a drag racer, and his wish was to relive the thrill one more time. We partnered with Thompson Raceway Park in Ohio, who graciously helped bring his wish to life.
Gene's face lit up with excitement as we stood just 30 feet from the start box, hearing the roar of the engines as cars and motorcycles hit speeds up to 190 mph. He shared that it stirred up countless memories from his racing days, remarking how much faster the cars are now. It was a loud and exhilarating experience, one that left him beaming.
This heartfelt moment was not just about fulfilling a wish—it was about revisiting a cherished chapter of Gene’s life, bringing back the joy and passion he once felt behind the wheel. By honoring our residents' wishes through our Golden Grant Program, we remind our residents that their passions and dreams still matter, reinforcing that their lives are full of value and meaning. Fulfilling these wishes also strengthens the bond between staff, residents, and their families, creating an environment that feels truly like home. It’s our way of showing we care for not just their health, but their happiness and overall well-being.
We are honored to have been part of making this happen and look forward to granting another wish next quarter.
