June Resident Spotlight
June 10, 2022
This month, we are shining our spotlight onto one of our residents, Carol Burress!
Carol, the youngest of seven children, was born in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, in 1942. She grew up on a farm and kept busy helping with various farm chores. She states that she especially enjoyed gardening and taking care of the animals. Carol's favorite memories from her time on the farm are from tending to and riding her horse, Thunder. Thunder was a gentle horse who got his mighty name because he was born during a thunderstorm.
During her senior year of high school, Carol met a young man named Bob at a party in September. They had their first date on a Sunday and started going steady the following Tuesday. In May, one month before Carol graduated in the top ten of her class, she and Bob were engaged to be married. The following November, they did just that, and 16 years later, Carol and Bob had a son. Carol jokes that the reason they waited so long to have a child was to prove that they didn’t have to get married.
Carol and Bob moved to Ohio in 1962. They enjoyed their new home and spent much of their free time hiking and exploring the Metroparks. After moving to Ohio, Carol worked for the White Motor Co. for a while. After this, she spent the majority of her employment in retail/customer service. She was employed at Dillard’s for 30 years and then worked at Walmart for 10 years. She enjoyed retail work, especially interacting with the customers. Carol says that she would still be working today had a broken hip not forced her into retirement.
Our June Resident Spotlight, Carol Burress!
The broken hip brought her to Mentor Ridge for rehab. Carol says that she was impressed with the Ridge from the beginning and still is. She shared, “I love it here. It’s clean, the people are nice, there is a lot to do, and they take good care of me. There is no other place I’d rather be.”
We, at The Ridge, are so happy that Carol is here and happy! It's been a pleasure getting to know her!
